Tawang, Sep 27: Superintendent of Police, Tawang, Tasi Darang, undertook a visit to the India-Bhutan border areas under Dudunghar Circle of Lumla Sub-Division, Tawang District, today as part of an initiative to strengthen coordination among the District Police, border guarding forces and local communities.

During the visit, the SP reached Warongdi, located ahead of the Tsamtikhang Check Post manned by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Bleteng.

He was accompanied by Inspector Ashok Kumar of SSB Bleteng, OC SIB Bleteng, Gaon Burah of Bleteng village Ngurup Tsering, GPM Tsering Dondup, GPM Buri Namgey, Gaon Burah of Zamening Nima Dorjee, SI (SG) Tsering Bu of Special Branch, SI (SG) Jowa Dondu of Lumla Police Station and other police personnel.

During the visit, a joint interaction was held involving Gaon Burahs and Gram Panchayat Members of the area and representatives of the SSB. Certain issues and differences raised during the interaction were discussed, with SP Tawang facilitating dialogue between the parties. He assured the participants that matters requiring intervention of the local administration would be brought to the notice of the concerned authorities for appropriate consideration.

SP Tawang also sensitised the gathering on various issues concerning border areas, including unauthorised cross-border movement, prevention of illegal activities, demographic changes and the need for vigilance and timely sharing of information with the concerned authorities.

Awareness was also imparted on important legal provisions, particularly the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976, with emphasis on community participation in preventing crime and protecting vulnerable sections of society.

Later, SP Tawang and the accompanying team visited Buri Village, one of the first Indian border villages towards Bhutan, along with adjoining areas, and interacted with local residents.

The border visit was undertaken as part of the continuing efforts of Tawang Police to strengthen police-public relations, enhance coordination with border guarding forces and encourage greater cooperation among security agencies, local communities and grassroots representatives in maintaining peace, security and vigilance along the sensitive border areas.

The visit also reaffirmed the importance of regular interaction and mutual understanding between local communities and security forces for effective border management and a peaceful and secure environment in the frontier areas. (DIPRO)
