Aalo, Sep 28:The monthly District levelNCORD committee meeting of September month 2026 was held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner West Siang. The meeting was chaired by Shri Mindo Loyi Deputy Commissioner West Siang District.

Sri Kardak Riba Superintendent of Police cum Convener District level NCORD Committee, West Siang, while welcoming the members of the District NCORD, informed the house that the Police Department has been conducting drug awareness programmes not only in the township areas but also in remote and vulnerable areas of the district.

He further informed that the NCORD teams have been conducting checks and taking necessary action against drug peddlers and those involved in drug-related activities. The SP urged all NCORD members and stakeholders to regularly upload details of drug awareness programmes and related activities conducted in West Siang on the designated portal, stating that such entries would be treated as official records.

Appealing to the public to actively cooperate with the Police Department in the fight against drug abuse, Sri Riba urged citizens to report any information regarding individuals involved in drug-related activities to the Police. He assured the public that the identity of the informant would be kept confidential.

A drug awareness campaign was organized with an emphasis on strengthening awareness among students and the wider community. Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson of Mothers’ Vision stressed the need to conduct regular awareness campaigns among girls studying in schools and colleges so that they are adequately informed about the harmful effects of drug abuse and can contribute to creating a drug-free society.

The President of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of collective efforts to prevent drug abuse, particularly among the younger generation.

District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. Linya Lollen urged the public to ensure that stagnant water does not accumulate in and around their houses, stressing the importance of maintaining cleanliness and a healthy environment.

Deputy Commissioner, West Siang, Sri Mindo Loyi, appreciated the Police Department, NGOs and other stakeholders for their tireless efforts towards preventing the inflow and spread of drugs in Aalo and West Siang. He stated that the West Siang District NCORD is making concerted efforts to prevent the inflow of drugs from outside into Aalo Township.

The DC directed the NCORD team to properly document and report all drug-related activities and developments. He also instructed the DDSE to give greater emphasis to drug awareness programmes in schools, with appropriate programmes designed according to different age groups.

Highlighting the importance of grassroots-level intervention, Sri Loyi stated that Panchayati Raj leaders have a significant role to play in preventing the harmful effects of drug abuse at the community level. He urged all stakeholders to actively participate in awareness activities and upload information and photographs of such programmes on appropriate platforms to ensure wider dissemination and greater public awareness.

The DC called for coordinated and sustained efforts involving government departments, educational institutions, Panchayati Raj institutions, police, NGOs and the community to effectively address the issue of drug abuse in the district.
