NAMSAI, Sep 26: The District Library (DL), Namsai has been conferred with the prestigious Skoch Gold Award for its initiative ‘Library on Wheels – Reaching the Unreached’, which has reached more than 8,000 children across 71 schools and Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in Namsai district.

The award was presented today at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, to S Mukhopadhyay, Librarian, District Library, Namsai, on behalf of the District Administration, Namsai. The recognition honours the DL efforts to extend library services and reading resources to children beyond conventional library premises.

Through regular visits to schools and AWCs, the initiative has provided children with access to books and reading activities, encouraging early reading habits and greater engagement with learning.

The Skoch Gold Award recognises the collective efforts of the District Administration, Namsai; District Library, Namsai; Public Libraries Department; participating schools and Anganwadi Centres; teachers; parents; and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the programme.

The achievement is a matter of pride for Namsai district and Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting the role of public libraries in promoting education, knowledge and a strong reading culture among children.

Meanwhile, the District Library, Namsai, has dedicated the recognition to the children, schools, AWCs, teachers, parents and all stakeholders who have contributed to the success of the initiative. (DIPRO)
