Yingkiong, Sep 26: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Ojing Tasing, who is also Chairman of the Empowered High Level Committee on the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), convened his maiden meeting with Heads of Departments, Administrative Officers and officers from paramilitary forces at the DC Office Conference Hall, Yingkiong, today.

During the meeting, Minister Ojing Tasing emphasised continuous public engagement and meaningful dialogue to build confidence, address concerns and ensure effective communication.  

Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, he called for a proactive and coordinated approach by all concerned officers for the smooth and timely conduct of PFR exercise, while ensuring transparency, due process and adherence to prescribed procedures.

Regarding the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR), the minister clarified that the exercise is primarily intended to undertake surveys and technical assessments to ascertain the feasibility of the proposed project and does not, by itself, constitute a final decision on project implementation.

The Minister stressed the need for positive, factual and responsible communication on the project and urged officers to address public concerns through transparent dialogue while ensuring that verified information is communicated to the public.

The minister also called for systematic documentation of public views and feedback and submission of weekly progress reports covering PFR activities, field developments, public interactions and issues requiring attention.

Deputy Commissioner, Upper Siang, Dr. Ashok Tajo, apprised the minister of the present status and assured concerted efforts by the district administration and concerned departments for timely implementation of the decisions taken.

Superintendent of Police, Upper Siang, Shri Dekio Gumja, briefed the meeting on security arrangements being put in place to facilitate the smooth conduct of activities. (DIPRO)
