Deomali, Aug 29: In a landmark development for the Nocte community, a General Body Meeting for the adoption of the Nocte Script was organised by Nocte Script Development Committee in collaboration with Wangcha Rajkumar Govt. College, Deomali at WRGC, Deomali.

Representatives from various Nocte-speaking communities, including Hahwakhun, Ollo, Khappa, Tang and Phungsung, participated in the meeting and shared valuable suggestions for making the script more inclusive, with scope for further amendments and refinement in the future.

The meeting was chaired by Hon’ble Minister for Environment & Forests, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Wangki Lowang. The programme proceeded as per the scheduled agenda and was enriched by cultural performances presented by students of Government Higher Secondary School, Deomali, and WRG College.

The central highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the proposed Nocte Script by Dr. Wanglit Mongchan. Representatives of different Nocte dialect groups expressed their views, discussed future strategies and wholeheartedly endorsed the proposed script as presented by Dr. Mongchan.

Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Minister Shri Wangki Lowang expressed deep appreciation to Dr. Wanglit Mongchan and all the members of Nocte Script Development Committee for their significant contribution towards preserving and developing the linguistic heritage of the Nocte community. He described the initiative as a landmark achievement that would serve future generations.

The Minister further encouraged the community to work towards developing a Nocte multidialectal dictionary for wider convenience and understanding, while emphasising the need for greater linguistic and cultural assimilation among the various Nocte communities. He urged all sections to rise above minor differences and work collectively in the larger interest of the Nocte community, embracing positive change for its development and preservation.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Watsen Bangsia, Principal, WRG College.

The adoption of the Nocte Script marks a historic step towards preserving, uniting and carrying forward the linguistic identity of the Nocte community for generations to come. (DIPRO)
