Itanagar, Oct 5: Arunachal Pradesh has won two 'best-performing state' awards for its performance under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0, an official statement said on Monday.

The state was recognised for 100 per cent timely completion of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) and for recording the second-highest performance under PMAY-U 2.0, the statement said.

The awards were presented at the World Habitat Day 2026 celebrations organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Sunday.

The recognition reflects the state’s efforts to ensure that sanctioned houses are completed within the stipulated time and eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of the schemes without delay, it said.

The awards recognise the combined efforts of the state government, Urban Affairs Department, Directorate of Urban Local Bodies, district administrations and other stakeholders involved in implementing the housing schemes, the statement said.

The achievement is significant for Arunachal Pradesh, where difficult terrain, scattered settlements and challenging geographical conditions often make the execution of development schemes more demanding.

Despite these challenges, the state has maintained focus on timely implementation, regular monitoring and ensuring that the housing assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries.

The awards were received by urban local bodies director Hano Takka along with officials associated with PMAY-U Arunachal. (Source: PTI)
