Yingkiong, Octo 10: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS), Yingkiong Unit, Upper Siang, celebrated its 47th Foundation Day at the APWWS office in Yingkiong today under the theme “Youth – Our Present and Future: An Inclusive Way Forward.” The programme commenced with flag hoisting and the singing of the APWWS anthem.

Formally affiliated and recognised in 2019, the Yingkiong Unit has been actively working for the welfare of women and children, combating drug addiction, and participating in various government awareness programmes.

As part of the celebration, the unit felicitated former President Smti Kalpana Perme Sitek and former General Secretary Ms. Kosiang Pangkam in recognition of their remarkable leadership and contributions during their respective tenures.

The unit also honoured three medical professionals of the district-Dr. Gepeng Litin, District Medical Officer, Upper Siang; Dr. Etuk Jopir, Senior Gynaecologist; and Dr. Joseph Tekseng, Anaesthesian, District Hospital, Yingkiongfor their dedicated service and invaluable contributions to healthcare in the district. 

During the programme, former office-bearers and distinguished guests congratulated the APWWS  on its  anniversary and urged members to continue their service towards women’s empowerment and emancipation. Zilla Parishad Chairperson Smti Api Kombo highlighted the importance of APWWS as a vital platform for women and called for concerted efforts to strengthen the organisation so that women from all sections of society could benefit from its services.

In her address, President Smti Kasimang Jopir Pazing thanked everyone for their active participation and paid tribute to the pioneering women who established APWWS in Arunachal Pradesh, providing women with a platform to lead, support and guide one another.

The programme concluded with a tree plantation drive around the office premises. The saplings were donated by Smti Sisibaying Nophi, Ranger, Ramsing Wildlife Range. The celebration also witnessed warm interactions and a renewed commitment to further strengthen the organisation and advance its mission.

Govt officers, Members of the APWWS Simong team, led by President Smti Aget Sitek, representatives of the Gorkha Women’s team, and members of APWWS Yingkiong participated in the celebration. APWWS was established on 10 October 1979 to fight against anti social practices in the society by  group of women who pioneered women's rights in Arunachal Pradesh. (DIPRO)
